A
PASTORAL CHALLENGE
FROM THE DEAN & VICAR
Dear Friends in Christ,
Shalom and blessings in the name
of the Lord Jesus Christ.
As in previous years, we
have prepared an extensive Christian
Education Programme for 2012. I like to begin
this short preface with a word of thanks to all our friends who have
availed themselves to teach the Word of God in
the Cathedral, as well as organisations like RBC Ministries with which we
have been co-organising the regular RBC Bible Conference, and CCE (Centre
for Christian Entrepreneurship) with which we are
co-organising a seminar entitled ‘Called to Do
Good Works: A Vision for Vocational Holiness.’ A personal word of thanks
is
also due to
Revd Peter Chen for putting together the CE Programme.
I like to specially
highlight that for the 2012 CE Programme, we have introduced training in
evangelism with the help of
Evangelism Explosion (EE) Singapore. Bearing
fruit in terms of bringing others to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is a
hallmark of authentic faith in God. It is also an expression of true
worship. Jesus said, ‘By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much
fruit and so prove to be my disciples’ (John 15:8). I like to encourage
members of the Cathedral to avail ourselves to this training, and be used
of God to bring others to faith in Him.
Finally, let me
highlight what the Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy, someone whom he had
encouraged and trained to wholeheartedly follow after the Lord Jesus
Christ:
All Scripture
is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for
reproof, for correction, and for training in
righteousness, that the man of God may be competent,
equipped for every good work.
(2 Tim 3:16-17)
It is
worthwhile to remind ourselves that, at a human level,
these were the words of a man who was about to exit from
this world. Paul wanted to leave behind something
important for Timothy. Submitting ourselves to the Word of
God for spiritual growth and fruitfulness is of paramount
importance. May the Lord God raise in St. Andrew’s
Cathedral a community of men and women who are indeed
equipped for every good work.
In Him,
Kuan Kim Seng
Dean and
Vicar
