Paul, the Man & his Letters
25/3 – 29/4 (6 Tues, 7.30 pm @ B2RA)
Rev Peter & Mrs Rosalind Chen
Of all the New Testament writers, Paul is probably the most influential in the
history of the Church. His teaching on salvation led to the Reformation in the
16th century and the birth of the present-day Protestant churches.
Paul’s letters, some written during his imprisonment for his faith, are full of
practical wisdom about life, family, work, Christian attitude towards secular
authority, sexual ethics, etc. The course will look at the work and person of
Paul; who he is and what motivated him to do what he did. It will also look at
each of Paul’s letters; and what Paul taught the Early Church about:
• The Parousia, the 2nd Coming of Christ.
• Gnosticism; heretical teachings that salvation is attained through special
knowledge or gnosis.
• The relationship between suffering and glory; what it means to live in
victory.
• Leadership’s calling and attention to duty.
• What it means to be saved by grace through faith.
