The Christian living in the postmodern world, especially in a pluralistic
society, faces a grave challenge. Many, believers included, assume that all
religions are the same; that all religions point to the same God and the
criteria for rewards and punishments and eternal destiny are the same in all
religions. They believe it really does not matter which religion one identifies
with, as long as one has a religion.
This erroneous position held by many Christians comes
out of a lack of understanding of their own faith, let alone other religious
faiths!
While it is true that most religions teach good values
and teach the followers to be good, however, Christianity is distinctively
different from other world religions.
The Christian faith is vividly portrayed in the person of Jesus Christ who
demonstrated the true meaning of love and grace! It is this unique Christ who
must be revealed to the pluralistic society. The talks will look at the other
major religions from the context of the Christian faith. We will then look at
and appreciate the richness in some of the other religions such as Buddhism,
Hinduism and Islam and to draw lessons from them. The seminars will address:

Dr Violet James
is Professor of Church History at the Singapore Bible College. She serves
part-time as Associate Pastoral Staff and Deacon at the Yio Chu Kang Chapel, a
Brethren Church. She is married to Victor Nathan, a businessman.
