How I Was Called To
Serve At LYnC

It first started off when I was on
humanitarian trip to Indonesia with a team of Cathedral members. Then, I
thoroughly enjoyed my working experience with children at the relief centre.
Some of them even asked us for own contact number and called us. Then, I
realized that youths are impressionable and working with them can be a
satisfying experience. During the trip, Marianne, a fellow team member told me
that saw the potential in me working with youths and encouraged me to do so. I
was hesitant and wanted to consider it before committing to anything. Instantly
after the encouragement, I received a sms from my Dad inviting me to join the
Welcome Ministry at the 930am English Service. I was quite taken aback then.
When I returned back, Denise, one of the LYnC leaders called me up, telling me
about the formation of a new youth fellowship and asking if I was interested to
join. I was not really attentive in the conversation but nevertheless I promised
her I’ll turn up for Cityteens (a former Cathedral's youth ministry) the next
day.
After the study group, I actually prepared to leave before the commencement of
Cityteens service but I took Marianne’s bottle by accident and had to bring it
back. It was really God’s work that I went back. He was creating an opportunity
to be exposed to Cityteens again. After that, Auntie Joyce and Denise talked to
me about the new youth fellowship and encouraged me to join. I wanted to think
about it and was not ready to give a firm reply. Towards the end of the
Cityteens service, Auntie Joyce closed the session with a prayer. She prayed for
the teens as they decided where to head on after the closure of Cityteens. At
one point, she specially mentioned to those who were hiding and running away to
step forward to serve in a ministry. This line hit me. It was as though God was
telling me to start committing to his work and stop running away. Thus after the
service, I decided to join the LYnC leadership training on Saturdays and be part
of LYnC.
On my first cell session, Auntie Joyce entrusted me to lead the new Welcome and
fellowship ministry for LYnC. It is amazing as everything actually pieced
together. I was encouraged to join the 930am Welcome ministry in a way to gain
experience as I were to lead in this aspect in the youth fellowship.
I have enjoyed the cell a lot and believe that God has a big plan for the new
fellowship. I look forward to building up the fellowship and working with
youths!
