Light of Hope
Project
Light of Hope started when our LYnC pastor helped out
in the annual Boy’s Brigade Sharity Gift Box where hampers were
distributed to the elderly living in the Redhill district. We then
saw this as an opportunity for a Youth-initiated outreach programme
to the elderly living there. As such, Light of Hope was born.
We meet once every month, befriending these elderly folk, and
bringing them goodies each time. We hope that the LYnC youth will
gain exposure and learn how to interact and share God's love with
the elderly. At the same time, it is our desire to bless the old
folks with the gift of our friendship.
Initially it was not easy for the youth to break out of their
comfort zone and go knocking from door to door. Moreover, most of
the old folks spoke dialect while most of our youths could not even
speak fluent Mandarin!
Despite the difficulties we had to overcome, God has been faithful
and we have made two visits to the residents at Redhill estate in
January and February respectively. The response from the youth has
been relatively good, with more youth joining us every month. As
Light of Hope has been gaining popularity, we have even the
privilege of adults joining us, guiding the youths along and
providing the “language support” the youths need!

We hope that more youth in LYnC will step up to the challenge and
commit themselves to serving the elderly regularly once a month. We
also welcome adults from the Cathedral to join us and serve as
mentors for the youth. We are also in the midst of raising funds for
the goodies and daily necessities for each trip; hence any donations
will be gladly welcome.
